The New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council's Business Opportunity Expo 2007 Hits Manhattan from June 11-12

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 6, 2007 -- The impact of New York and New Jersey minority business-owners on corporate America will be highlighted at The New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council's Business Opportunity Expo 2007 held from June 11-12 at the New York Marriott Marquis, 1535 Broadway in New York City.

Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker and Christopher Gardner, author of the bestseller book and hit film The Pursuit of Happyness, both national figures who have been outspoken advocates on minority business development, will be keynote speakers.

The Council's Business Opportunity Expo is considered New York City's top conference on major private, public and foreign-owned firms outsourcing to minority businesses. This year's theme MBEs: The Empowering Core of Corporate America reflects the impact of minority business on corporate diversity initiatives. The Expo attracts the nation's leading supplier diversity executives. At the Expo, corporate members and Council-certified minority business owners will have the opportunity to strategize, meet and negotiate during two days packed with educational workshops, luncheons, networking receptions and a major trade fair. The 2007 Expo will be chaired by corporate co-chair Gwendolyn Turner, program manager, Pfizer and Council-certified supplier co-chair Yoindra (Ryan) Ramnarayan, president Deluxe Delivery Systems, Inc.

"The 2007 Expo is an excellent opportunity for minority business owners to network with major corporations for contracts and sharpen their business skills," pointed out Lynda Ireland, president of The Council. "During 2006, The Council's corporate members did over $6 billion in business with our certified suppliers. Our certified suppliers are African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic-American and Native-American business owners with annual revenues ranging from $100,000 to over $100 million."

"We're excited about this year's business sessions," explained Ireland. "One presentation includes a lively skit showing an encounter between the Mighty Mouse minority business owner and the Big Acme Corporation that deals with the four P's--prepare; plan; play and present. Another is a roundtable of Council-certified minority business discussing the potential pitfalls of growth without a sound business strategy."

On June 11, Mayor Booker will be the keynote speaker for the Sponsors' Luncheon. He took the oath of office as Mayor of New Jersey's largest city in 2006 following a sweeping electoral victory. Mayor Booker, a Yale Law School graduate and Rhodes Scholar, was founder of Newark Now and the Central Ward Councilman in Newark. Monica Morales of WNBC NewsChannel 4 will host the luncheon.

Gardner, the author of the New York Times bestseller autobiography The Pursuit of Happyness, will be the keynote speaker for the Power Breakfast June 12. Gardner, the CEO of Christopher Gardner International Holdings, has offices in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. This year, the hit movie based on his life earned actor Will Smith an Oscar nomination. Gardner, who is also a philanthropist, is an avid motivational speaker, addressing the keys to self-empowerment, beating odds, and breaking cycles. In addition, Joe Watson, author of Without Excuses: Unleash the Power of Diversity to Build Your Business, will be the keynote speaker for the Welcome Breakfast on June 11.
