HOUSTON (Business Wire EON) March 28, 2008 -- The Tri-City Business/Education Coalition encourages the private sector to donate funds for scholarships for economically-disadvantaged students. The funds raised through LenSec's sponsorship will benefit PSJA's students through mini-grants awarded to classrooms, Bright Summer Readers Program, Texas Scholars Incentive pep-rallies, and the Texas Scholar Banquet. Ultimately, raised fund goals are to promote and encourage students to take more challenging and advanced courses in high school that will better prepare them for college.
PSJA ISD is the largest school district in Hidalgo County, Texas and the second largest in the Rio Grande Valley, serving over 30,000 students with 26 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools, and three alternative campuses. PSJA ISD houses students from three different cities, who come from similar backgrounds and ways of life. The student body at PSJA ISD is 98.7% Hispanic, 85.11% economically disadvantaged, and 77.74% at risk. With the district's proximity to Mexico, 41.90% of the students are considered Limited English Proficient (LEP) with Spanish being the language spoken at home. Despite those figures, PSJA ISD has maintained a culture of pride and excellence. Known for its "children first" environment, it has actively taken those challenges and has helped motivate students to pursue an education beyond high school.
According to Manuel Rivera, Jr., PSJA ISD Deputy Superintendent of Schools, "I would like to thank LenSec for their continued support of our fundraising endeavors that promote PSJA students. Their generosity and sown seeds will help reap a brighter future for our students by supporting academic programs that will better prepare them for tomorrow's challenges."
"LenSec is delighted to lend a hand to PSJA students and help them achieve their full potential," states Keith Drummond, LenSec Chief Executive Officer. "As one of LenSec's valued customers, PSJA already employs LenSec's district-wide video surveillance system to help provide a more safe and secure learning environment for their students. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to take it a step further by not only assisting in satisfying their students' safety concerns, but by also helping to fulfill their scholastic needs as well."
