Ironically, a shocking percentage of those who try to guide you wouldn't know smart marketing if it jumped up and bit them! Their "marketing expertise" wouldn't fill a thimble.

Deadly Lie #1: It's Easy For Anyone To Make Money On The Internet

Well, yes and no. It's probably more fair to say it's simple (because the principles are straightforward), but not necessarily easy, especially if you don't know the truth!

However, in very broad terms, there's really only 3 things you need to get right:

1. Have an excellent quality product or service on offer. Now, if you don't have your own product, there are literally thousands of other people's products you can sell, but they must be top quality. Oh yes, and it must be a product people want, not need. For example, in the travel world, people generally want to go on expensive vacations - rarely do they need to go. And that's a seven trillion dollar business!

2. Have a web page which leads visitors to carry out the single, clearly identifiable action you want them to take. For instance download a report or free ebook. Sign up for a newsletter.

3. Drive qualified traffic to that site

Now, that's going to take some work (either by you or someone else), but you don't have to be more than about 8 years old to understand that making any kind of significant money is going to take effort! The key is understanding the truth about the work that needs to be done, and how to get it done.

Deadly Lie #2: Starting A Home Business Is Cheap! All You Need Is A Computer.

Yeah, right!

At the very least you're going to need a website, and that may cost you a bit of money. You may be able to do it yourself, but many folks don't have that ability. And very few people know how to build effective web sites. Once again, there's BS piled up to the sky on how to do this, so try and pick a product which has an excellent website built in.

And then there's the traffic. Again there's BS and there's truth about how to do this. But is is likely to cost you some money? How much? Depends on how much you're prepared to learn and listen to advice about what does and does not work - the truth.

Fact is, if you don't know what you're doing, you can be looking at thousands, maybe tens of thousands of dollars to set up a business. If you don't know the truth about what works and what doesn't.

Deadly Lie #3: As Long As You Get Into A Good Home Business Opportunity, You'll Make Money Fast

Not so fast. Here are a couple of sobering facts...

According to reliable industry sources, a staggering 95% of those who begin a home Internet business fail to ever even break even! That's a long way from success, with the odds stacked against you.

Less than ? of 1% of all those who ever start a home Internet business earn in excess of six figures over a five year period. That just sucks doesn't it? Not exactly time to quit the j-o-b with those grim statistics.

Deadly Lie #4: You Don't Have To Worry About SELLING. All You Have To Do Is SHARE!

Oh dear - here we go again. More BS. *sigh*.

Now, caring and sharing is all very nice. You've been taught sharing was a desirable personal trait since you were in preschool! That's well and good when it comes to a plastic truck or a chocolate chip cookie.

NOT great when it comes to building a viable, long-term business on a solid foundation that will support continuing growth and profitability. Look, if you're eager for warm fuzzy feelings, you need to join a support group or get a puppy.

"Nothing happens in business until someone sells something". Not sure who said, but it's a fact.

The TRUTH of the matter is...

If Effective Sales and Marketing Strategies Aren't Part Of Your Business, You Will Assuredly Fail!

But note that I said "until someone sells something". Now, there's no getting around that fact - that sales must happen - but does it need to be you doing the selling?

Not necessarily.

Deadly Lie #5: If You Just Think Positively, You Will Succeed!

Oh dear!

While I fully acknowledge keeping a positive attitude, having a success mindset, and focused intention are extremely important components to your success; it takes much more than that to reliably build your business. Sitting in your Lazy Boy, wolfing down chips and thinking big thoughts is NOT going to build your business.

If you're older than 20, you, like me, have probably been exposed to one or more of the hyped up multi-level marketing gigs out there. And when the going gets tough, their only response is something like "the tough get going".

Sheesh - and they wonder why most of their flock do not get going!

Success comes from finding the truth about what works and what doesn't, and finding the truth about what to do about it.

And...

Getting off your rear and actually DOING something about it!

No free rides here, but boy, when you know what works and how to make it work, and you're willing to saddle up, life can get a whole lot more profitable!
