Algolith De-interlacing Technology Integrated with Altera 1080p Video Framework Unveiled at NAB 2008

Montreal, Canada (PRWEB) April 14, 2008 -- Algolith Inc. and Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR), today announced the integration of a high-quality Intellectual Property (IP) core, designed by Algolith, with the Altera 1080p video framework for their FPGAs. The Altera 1080p video framework allows systems designers to quickly integrate Algolith's proprietary de-interlacing technology into Altera's low-cost Cyclone FPGAs as well as their high-density, high-end Stratix FPGA-based development kits. The IP core facilitates integration of de-interlacing for a variety of video format conversion applications in post-production, studio editing, broadcast, cable, satellite, and IPTV environments. Algolith and Altera will demonstrate this solution, along with their complete product lines, in their respective booths N3414 and SL12705 at the 2008 NAB Show in the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 14-17.

Algolith de-interlacing technology is a motion adaptive technique for converting interlaced video to progressive video before it is up scaled and displayed. With support for 480i to 1080i formats, the de-interlacer offers both frame-based and per-pixel real time de-interlacing techniques. The de-interlacer is just one of the many market-proven IP solutions offered in the Algolith IP portfolio.

"The Altera 1080p video framework combined with our IP core, opens up our de-interlacing technology to a wide variety of customers," said Jacques Patry, director of technology development at Algolith Inc. "This implementation will enable the future adoption of other Algolith IP modules from our IP portfolio."

The Algolith de-interlacer has been implemented on Altera FPGAs and integrated with the Altera 1080p video framework. The Altera 1080p video framework includes a set of video and image processing modules along with standard interfaces that allows designers to rapidly develop high-performance video systems. The framework enables easy mix and match of video IP from different sources with the ability to customize and differentiate. The framework is based on an open, low-overhead, interface protocol called Avalon Streaming that can efficiently handle both video and control data.

"We are excited to partner with Algolith, and to employ their de-interlacer IP in our 1080p video framework to help bring this highly advanced and flexible product to market," said Arun Iyengar senior director of Altera Corporation's communications business unit. "Combining an FPGA-based solution with reusable IP building blocks addresses key challenges in studio and broadcast applications and promotes rapid and easy integration."
