1. Pick a business that has a product that you can promote with pride. Something that you yourself are sold on. If you feel that the product is in anyway a rip-off, you will not be able to hide that no matter what. Make sure it is something someone would buy without getting in the business.

2.What are the start-up and maintenance costs? If you are being asked to spend several hundreds dollars or more at start-up, you really need to investigate what you are receiving for your money. Also how much product are you expected to continue to purchase monthly? Does that leave you enough for advertising?

3. Consider the economy and internet business statistics. In a down economy consumers tend to buy necessities over desired good. If the business is one that sells luxury or items a consumer can do without then starting the business in a failing economy is not a good idea.

4. Does the product have global appeal? Is your business confined to certain regions or to only one country? If the product can be sold throughout the world, that makes it a lot better.

5. Look at the competition. It is rare that a business owner will find a business where there is no competition. Sizing up what the competitor is doing will help the business owner to see what customers are not getting there and open up the possibility of finding there angle at the market.

6. Does the company supply you with marketing strategies and on going training and support? You will want to look for a home based business that teaches you how to build wealth and has a fully automated system with professional websites and internet tools that promote for you. Using internet tools is not difficult, but if you have never been shown what to do, it could be nearly impossible. That is why on going training is so important.

7. How do you know if something is real or just a pyramid scheme? The word pyramid has gotten a really bad rap. Every viable organization takes an the shape of a pyramid. The president at the top has several department heads under him, who each have several managers, who supervise teams of employees, ect. The problem lies not in the structure, but in the value (or lack of!) of the product and compensation being passed up and down these lines. If the product is non-existent, or promises to be materialized in the future, or is grossly over priced, then you are dealing with schemers and thieves. If, on the other hand, you are engaged in a business that pays according to a matrix or comp. plan as long as the product is a good value for the money and each representative is being compensated fairly, then you have a legitimate multi-level marketing (MLM) or direct sales structure. It is good, old-fashion, legitimate SALES.
