Livecast's Real-time Video Streaming from Mobile Devices to Web Featured in Intel's Computex Keynote Presentation

Computex, Taipei (PRWEB) June 3, 2008 -- Livecast Media, Inc. (formally ComVu), the leading provider of live video streaming direct from mobile devices, today unveiled its new live video and GPS mapping portal "mash-up" during the opening keynote address at Computex Taipei 2008, presented by Intel Executive Vice President Sean Maloney.

The Intel keynote demonstration featured a preview of Livecast's soon-to-launch community portal based on Microsoft's Silverlight technology. The portal is designed as an interactive live video and GPS mapping "mash-up" that displays each mobile livecaster's location as a colored pinpoint on a map. Viewers can mouse over each pinpoint to preview video information, then click to launch the corresponding live video stream.

Maloney presented Livecast as a compelling Web 2.0 consumer application that enables users to take advantage of the high-capacity uplink channel unique to WiMAX data networks. The ability of livecasters to stream live video straight from their WiMAX-enabled mobile devices to the web means that breaking news can instantly be broadcast to the world: friends can see what's happening at the night club or at the shopping mall, family members living far away can still experience a wedding or birthday party, and band members can entertain a global audience with a few minutes' notice.

"We predict that providing a 'one-button,' simple way to broadcast high quality video from a mobile device will change the way people create and deliver user-generated video on-the-go," said Tim Sweeney, director, mobile WiMAX applications lab, Intel. "Livecast's technology is a great example of the type of emerging application that will take advantage of the benefits of mobile WiMAX technology, giving people a convenient way to get and share video content when and where they want it instantly."

The keynote demonstrated the potential of the technology by capturing live video and GPS information from Segways equipped with WiMAX-enabled devices traveling around the city of Taipei, providing live, real-time views of what the livecasters were seeing, as they were seeing it, with their exact locations tracked on a map in real-time.

"Livecast was founded on the vision that the mobile world would soon experience a quantum leap forward in bandwidth capacity, processing power, and video-enablement," said William Mutual, Livecast CEO. "We are confident that the timing is right to offer consumers our latest technology through a Web 2.0 community portal that lets them easily and conveniently share their experiences by broadcasting live video with their location to a few friends or a worldwide audience."

How it works:

Once Livecast is installed on a device, users simply press the "start" button and the device establishes a data connection and streams the video live with embedded GPS data to a server using WiMAX. From there, the video can be propagated to a webpage where friends, relatives, and fans can watch what's being shot and see the location, in real time.

Because the video is automatically stored on a server, a copy of the video is instantly available when the "stop" button is pressed, and can also be displayed on a global map for convenient browsing. Defaults can be defined in advance, so that alerts are sent to friends when a user goes "live." Every member is provided with a personal webpage to host videos and show locations on a map.

Availability:

Livecast service is available now. The new Livecast community portal with the video and GPS mapping "mash-up" features showcased in the keynote demonstration will be available for open beta the end of June 2008.
