Setting Up Your Business Card Referral Program

Employee referral programs are very popular these days. The idea is to simply turn every employee into a recruiter for the company. This would mean that it would save you a lot of time, effort and money. If you are still new to this idea, it?s a good idea to read more regarding some of the precautions that you must take before setting up your business card referral program.

If you have already agreed to offer referral cards, then here are four tips on how to do it right:

#1 Card limit

There should be a limit to the number of cards that you wish to distribute. The last thing that you want to happen is for your employees to give every ?Tom, Dick and Harry? a referral card. Think about it. If everyone gets one, then they would not feel as special. The harder it is to get a card, they more honoured they will feel when receiving it. So, don't start throwing your referral cards around like it is some kind of confetti. Try to only give it to those with good potential.

Also, do limit the number of referral cards that can be given out. If you are looking for extremely talented people for your company, then it is highly unlikely that you?ll get meet more than a dozen each month. So just distribute between four to ten cards a month. That should be a good number to work with.

#2 Limit the number of employees

This means that NOT all employees will be allowed to hand out the referral cards. Limit the referral cards such that only certain employees can have access to these cards. You will definitely not want to waste your cards on people with poor potential. Your receptionists and customer service officers are good examples of people to give referral cards to, as they are usually exposed to all sorts of people most of the time. So make full use of this opportunity.

#3 Give feedback

It is important to give feedbacks to your card distributors. After these cards are distributed, it is important to note the success rate, and whether your target has been met. What you can do is to inform them about the number of cards that has resulted in job enquiries. Inform your recruiters about the number of job enquiries, interviews success rates, as well as the number of people who actually secured a job. Ideally, each recruiter should know how well he or she is doing when giving out those referral cards. If you realise that a particular individual is not showing a good success rate, it might be a good idea to stop giving him (or her) the referral cards.

#4 Card design

You must also consider about the card design that you wish to adopt. It should be something unique such that when someone sees it, he (or she) will be interested to give it a closer look. Your referral card actually does not strictly have to be designed as a typical card. Get creative and make it fanciful. Use unique colours, shapes and textures to differentiate your cards from the rest.

These tips are good guidelines to follow if you want to make your business card referral program a huge success. If you do it correctly, you will have a smooth time seeking for excellent future employees.
