SolsticeCam, the Wireless Solar Powered Video Camera System by Sun Surveillance Inc. Captures Crucial Video Evidence of Bank Robbery Just Weeks After

Greer, SC (PRWEB) May 6, 2006 -- It was almost the perfect crime. The Sharonview Federal Credit Union, an ordinary and seemingly unnoticeable outpost nestled quaintly on the back roads of Greer, South Carolina, sits just on the perimeter of the Mitsubishi Polyester Film Manufacturing Facility.

At 8 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday April 19th 2006, after a night of severe thunderstorms, the weather was eerily dreary as rain continued to poor. Most patrons of the credit union were just getting home or had already started the 12 hour shift at the Mitsubishi plant which begins promptly at 7 a.m.. As is custom, the manger of the bank opened the vault at 8 a.m. to replenish the teller drawers with stacks of crisp new bank notes. Hundreds of yards away security guards were settling in to take their post at the security entrance of the Mitsubishi Manufacturing Facility.

Just after 8 a.m. two men wearing black ski masks and carrying a duffle bag burst into the bank with firearms waving. The armed robbers ordered the few customers unfortunate enough to be at the bank to lie facedown on the floor. Without hesitation, the two men ordered the frightened bank tellers to empty their drawers of cash. In just over a minute the two men had vanished as suddenly as they appeared with an undetermined sum of cash.

Fortunately for the FBI, there was more evidence of the robbery than just a handful of eyewitness accounts and video of the two men inside the bank waiving guns. Thanks to the foresight of the management of Mitsubishi, two state of the art wireless solar powered pan/tilt/zoom network cameras were installed and strategically positioned to monitor the front and back of the Sharonview Federal Credit Union. Video evidence showed that at 8:06 a.m. two men drove up in a late model black Mitsubishi Montera, rushed from the vehicle with the engine still running and bolted through the front door of the bank. Footage showed that one minute later, with the duffle bag now full of stolen cash, the two men got back in their SUV and quickly fled south on Hood Road.

With video evidence in hand, FBI agents were quickly able to provide local authorities with the make and model of the getaway vehicle, a general description of the two men, and the direction in which the men were last seen heading. By noon there were local media reports on radio and television stations across the upstate of South Carolina that two armed men driving a black Mitsubishi SUV had robbed the Sharonview Federal Credit Union and were last seen heading south on Hood Road.

Thankfully, by investing in the wireless solar powered surveillance technology of Sun Surveillance just weeks prior to the robbery, management at Mitsubishi were quickly able to provide the FBI with video evidence. This video provided the FBI with crucial details of the robbery that allowed agents to begin a hasty manhunt for the two armed robbers.
